Members and Allies of the Vietnam Veterans of America,
On behalf of Vietnam Veterans of America, I write to express our full support for H.R. 8371, the Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act. This critical legislation builds upon our nation’s unwavering commitment to honor and care for our veterans by addressing vital healthcare and benefits challenges they face in the modern era.
H.R. 8371 promises a comprehensive modernization of veterans' healthcare and benefits. It tackles essential areas including mental health services, caregiver support, women veterans’ healthcare, and post-service education, ensuring our veterans receive the care and opportunities they rightfully deserve. By implementing these reforms, we will be one leap forward towards fulfilling our duty to those who risked their lives for our country.
Our nation made a vow to those who serve, as eloquently stated by Abraham Lincoln: “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan.” This bill is a profound step toward meeting that vow by providing our veterans with the resources and support systems they need to thrive beyond their service years.
This effort would not have been possible without the hard work and collaboration of many veteran organizations. We extend our gratitude to The American Legion, AmVets, The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA), The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. (VFW), and The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). Their dedication and commitment to this cause have been instrumental in forming a coalition that stands ready to support our veterans at every turn.
This legislation is likely to come up soon, and we respectfully ask for your support in urging your Representatives to vote "Yes" for the betterment of veteran care. It is both our duty and honor, as veterans and citizens alike, to stand behind the men and women who fought for our freedoms. This bill not only represents an improvement in the quality of veterans’ healthcare but also reinforces our collective commitment to fulfilling the promises we made to them.
We urge you to support H.R. 8371 and prioritize its passage. This act is not just a piece of legislation but a testament to our national character and an acknowledgment of our veterans’ sacrifices. Thank you for standing with those who have stood for us all.
Sincerely,
Jack McManus
