What This Bill Would Do
These bills would award Commander Everett Alvarez, Jr. with the Congressional Gold Medal, honoring his lifetime of service to this country, both while enlisted, as well as after.
Who Was Commander Everett Alvarez, Jr.?
A distinguished Naval officer, lawyer, author, and former government executive. He is best known to the public as the first American aviator shot down over North Vietnam. He was held captive for 8 years and 6 months, making him the longest-held prisoner of war in North Vietnam.
