Take Action: Urge Congress to Pass Online Protections for Children

Huge news! There’s been critical updates regarding digital safety legislation, and we need your help! Please contact your members of Congress TODAY to vote YES and help pass key legislation to keep our kids safe online!

Congress is currently deciding whether to pass the “Kids Online Safety and Privacy Act” (S. 2073), which is bipartisan legislation that would promote a safe and positive online experience for children and youth.

The legislation combines two bills that have received widespread bipartisan support from families and lawmakers nationwide: the Kids Online Safety Act “KOSA” (S. 1409, H.R. 7891) and the Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act “COPPA 2.0” (S. 1418, H.R. 7890).

  • COPPA 2.0 would provide a desperately needed update of federal law to better protect the personal information of children online, including giving parents the ability to erase personal information about their children that is online, banning targeted advertising to children and teens, preventing internet companies from gathering the personal data of children under the age of 16 without consent, and creating a new office dedicated to enforcing critical youth privacy and marketing laws.
  • KOSA would enhance default privacy settings for the social media accounts of young users, expand parental options and controls, increase transparency and strengthen reporting mechanisms, and encourage social media platforms to proactively prevent and mitigate harm to minors.

It is time for action. It is time for Congress to pass a federal data privacy and security law that establishes strong safeguards to protect children and teens when they use the internet.
