Despite comprising less than 1% of the federal budget, U.S. foreign aid has been a crucial source of humanitarian, food, and medical support globally. The administration's move to reduce funding by $60 billion is already affecting communities across the globe. Numerous initiatives in nations such as Bangladesh, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Haiti, South Sudan, and Ukraine have been forced to close, halting essential services like healthcare, nutrition programs, and disaster relief efforts.
In addition, the administration’s indefinite refugee ban and funding halt remain in effect. No refugees are being processed, no refugees are arriving, and tens of millions of dollars of State Department funding for vital refugee programs remains on hold. The indefinite refugee ban, stop-work orders, and failure to reimburse resettlement agencies have had a devastating impact on tens of thousands of refugee families and communities across the country. And our partners at Church World Service have been forced to furlough staff due to lack of funds.
Congress must take a stand against these harmful reductions. Stand with us in supporting the world’s most vulnerable communities. Urge your representatives in Congress to oppose these cuts and safeguard U.S. foreign aid and refugee assistance.
