Clinical trials are essential to advanci
ng new standards of care that can improve survival and quality of life for people living with cancer. However, there are still significant barriers to patient enrollment in clinical trials that leave some populations underrepresented. Congress is currently considering the Clinical Trial Modernization Act (H.R. 8412), a crucial piece of bipartisan legislation that addresses these barriers and makes it easier for all people with cancer to have access to and participate in clinical trials. This legislation aims to:- Remove economic barriers to increase clinical trial participation for all demographic, socioeconomic, and geographic populations
- Facilitate remote participation in clinical trials
- Encourage clinical trial enrollment by underrepresented groups
- Ensure that financial support from clinical trial sponsors provided to patients is not subject to taxation
Congress should support the Clinical Trial Modernization Act (H.R. 8412) that ensures more cancer patients have a chance to enroll in clinical trials, regardless of race or ethnicity, age, geographic location, or economic means.
