The Virginia General Assembly is scheduled to convene on January 8, 2025.  It is the plan of abortion proponents in the legislature to immediately take up an initiative that would amend the state constitution to enshrine a right to abortion.  This is the first step in the process of amending the state constitution.  Let’s stop it in its tracks.

Among the negative effects amendment HJ 1/SJ 247 will have on the citizens of Virginia, the language allows no protection for minors and no regulation of abortion until the third trimester and even that is very limited. Like other states that have passed similar amendments, this will tie up the courts with lawsuits challenging current regulations.  Abortion is already allowed in Virginia, there is no reason to go to this extreme.
