As negotiations about education funding ramp up again in Congress, now is an important time to reiterate your support for federal investments in public schools and in school mental health professional workforce development. Appropriators in Congress are working on finalizing funding levels and program directives for the Department of Education and other agencies. The House and Senate have proposed different funding levels for the Department at large, including for Title I, IDEA, and the Mental Health Service Professional Demonstration Grant and the School-Based Mental Health Services Grant programs. Tell your members of Congress to support the Senate-proposed investments for the Department and the grants to provide a higher level of investment than what has been proposed by the House.
Shortages are leaving too many students without access to the learning, social, and emotional supports they need and creating an undue burden on the school psychology workforce. Our students deserve better, and so do we.
Join NASP in calling on Congress to support funding for new awards of the only two federal grants that address the shortage of school psychologists in FY 2026 and beyond.
