Ask How Your Member Is Defending Americans’ Privacy!
The foundation of our government is rooted in the idea that it must serve the American people, and when the framework of our governing body was created, practices were put in place to ensure proper checks and balances. President Trump’s creation of the Department of Government Efficiency and appointment of Elon Musk as the leader of it as a “special government employee” was done using an executive order to circumvent these anti-corruption safeguards. Now, an unconfirmed Administration head has a government email, office in the White House complex, and almost unfettered access to the most restricted government data, along with a team of individuals who have not undergone adequate security clearance protocols.
NARFE stands firmly on the side of protecting the privacy of the American people, and that includes scrutinizing who has access to our most sensitive information, and what controls and oversight exist to abuse the use of that data. Musk and his unvetted allies have infiltrated highly guarded government databases, including payment data at the U.S. Treasury Department, Medicare and Medicaid records within the Department of Human Health Services, and the IT systems of several other agencies, including the federal employee and retiree data stored at the Office of Personnel Management, and information at the Department of Labor, and more. Multiple lawsuits have been filed against the Administration for these violations, but NARFE is encouraging its members to contact their members of Congress to ask them what they are doing to defend their constituents from this illegal invasion of privacy.
