Despite dire women’s health statistics and a $3 billion budget deficit in Maryland, Governor Wes Moore and the Maryland General Assembly are prioritizing abortion and abortion funding over lifesaving alternatives that would empower women to choose life for their children. 

57% of people surveyed in the 2025 Marist Poll oppose the use of taxpayer funds for abortion.  But in 2024, Maryland taxpayers were forced to pay more than $33 million in public funds to abortion businesses and organizations.  In 2024 alone, abortion giant Planned Parenthood reported receiving $700 million in taxpayer funding.

In Maryland, abortion is legal for any reason throughout all nine months of pregnancy, supported by the state Medicaid program, and available to minor children without parental consent. The State of Maryland has become a regional destination for elective and late-term abortion.  Recent radical acts of the legislature have obligated taxpayers to pay millions of dollars to train a low-skilled abortion workforce of non-physicians, required private insurers to fully fund abortion with no deductibles or copayments, and forced colleges and universities to coordinate abortion on campus targeting vulnerable pregnant students and their babies.

Paradoxically, the state ranks among the worst in the nation for infant mortality and preterm birth rates and has seen a rise in severe maternal morbidity since 2019. Women in underserved communities lack access to high-risk obstetric care, face challenges in obtaining mental and behavioral health services, experience increased rates of substance abuse and overdose, and are deprived of essential prenatal and perinatal education for healthy birth and delivery outcomes.

The following bills before the Maryland General Assembly, if enacted this session, would increase funding for abortion, empowering the deadly abortion industry to kill greater numbers of innocent babies.  By forcing taxpayers to fund abortion violence, the State infringes on our Constitutionally-guaranteed freedoms including LIFE, Free Speech and Free Exercise of Religion.
