The Louisiana Department of Health Releases Notice to Reopen Healthcare in Louisiana

This evening, the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) issued Notice #2020-COVID 19-ALL-010, allowing physicians to reopen their offices for non-emergent care and allowing patients to have postponed elective medical procedures and surgeries.

Effective, Monday, April 27, 2020, medical and surgical procedures are allowed to treat emergency medical conditions, to avoid further harms from underlying condition or disease, and to treat time-sensitive medical conditions, provided that the facility/provider ensure that certain conditions are met. Such as, pre-operative clinical evaluations to minimize the risk that the patient has COVID-19 and comprehensive follow-up evaluations. The order establishes processes for these visits and mandates use of the CDC guidelines released yesterday.

Further allowed under Section III, providers receive some flexibility on seeing patients for routine healthcare. While it encourages continued use of telehealth, it suggests you may determine its appropriateness on a case-by-case basis. You are further encouraged to use appropriate CDC and LDH guidelines to minimize exposure to patients and staff.

LSMS is grateful to have been able to work with the Department as they updated the order. Our staff has been communicating with the Department on a regular basis to discuss this and other regulatory orders impacting you and your practices. We urge you to continue letting us know how you are being impacted.
