Tell Congress to Pass the "Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act"
Law enforcement officers are in harm’s way each and every day. They are exposed not only to physical threats, but also unseen or unknown threats while operating in potentially hazardous environments. Normally, officers who die or are severely injured in the line of duty are eligible for a cash benefit payment from the Public Safety Officers Benefit Program (PSOB). However, public safety officers who are exposed to known carcinogens and who contract cancer leading to death or serious injury are currently not eligible.
H.R. 1269/S. 237 would correctly categorize duty-related cancer fatalities as a line of duty death under Public Safety Officers’ Benefits program. These bills acknowledge their sacrifice in service to their communities and ensure that the families of fallen officers receive the benefits to which they are entitled.
