Contact Your Members of Congress about the Pause on Federal Grant Funding
On Jan. 27, the Trump Administration issued a pause on disbursement of federal grants and other funds, pending a review for consistency with the President’s policies. It was originally effective at 5 p.m. ET on Jan. 28, but was delayed until 5 p.m. ET on Feb. 3 by a stay issued by a federal judge to allow for further litigation.

This pause will have immediate and disruptive effects on the scientific enterprise. While it’s unclear if or when this pause will be in effect and for how long, now is the time for action.

Microbiologists who receive federal funding are understandably concerned about whether their important work will continue or be significantly hampered. The microbial sciences serve the public interest by protecting Americans from illness and chronic disease, increasing food production and mitigating environmental threats.

Email your members of Congress with your personal story to let them know the impact this pause will have on your work and scientific research in their district and state.
