Call on Congress to make cancer research a top national priority. Robust, sustained, and predictable federal funding is crucial for researchers to plan and continue the cutting-edge projects that will lead to new, better treatments and cures for a variety of diseases, including the more than 200 diseases we collectively call cancer.
From 2015 to 2023, Congress made medical research a top priority by providing significant funding increases for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). However, the lack of a funding increase for fiscal year (FY) 2024 and regular delays in the appropriations process risk jeopardizing years of progress against cancer and hundreds of other diseases. With so many promising research opportunities, we can't afford to stop the momentum.
Reach out to your members of Congress and let them know that NIH funding is important to you. Join the AACR and the broader medical research community in urging Congress to provide $51.3 billion, an increase of $4.2 billion, for the NIH's foundational work in FY 2025.
