Your Members of Congress Need to Hear from You

The 119th Congress is already well underway with Committees holding hearings, Members setting the legislative agenda, and Chambers passing legislation. It’s important your Senators and House Representative know their constituents! Send your representatives an introductory email describing who you are and the hard work you do in the field of youth mental health!

We have a sample letter that you can use, below, but please personalize the note. Share a patient story that illustrates a health policy you care about. Patient stories can be an impactful way to show real world implications of legislation, or lack thereof, and the need for change. You can also offer to give your Representatives a tour of your practice or hospital when they are back home in the district. When invited, Members of Congress will frequently visit members of their community to see the hard work they are doing.

You can use the form on this page to reach out to your lawmakers. Please note, some Congressional offices have caps on the length of emails their system will allow you to send. And, if your Member of Congress responds to your email, we would love to know! Send any follow-up to govaffairs@aacap.org.
