California Sangat: Tell the State Senate to Pass SB 509 and Fight Transnational Repression
The CA State Senate has the opportunity to pass a critical bill that seeks to protect all targeted Californians, including Sikhs, from the practice of transnational repression. SB 509 establishes transnational repression as a crime and human rights violation in the state of California.

Transnational repression is defined by the FBI as the practice of foreign governments seeking to undermine Americans’ constitutional rights, most often because those Americans are in some way criticizing those foreign governments. SB 509 codifies transnational repression as a civil rights violation, and requires the California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) to design and deliver training to all levels of state and local law enforcement to keep diverse Californian communities safe as they practice protected political speech.

SALDEF urges all Sikhs in California to support SB 509, at a timely moment when our community is being directly targeted. Use our form to tell your State Senator to vote YES on SB 509 and stand against foreign governments trying to restrict the rights of communities in California.
