Congress: Share your disappointment with senators on the CTC vote
After months of waiting, the Senate finally scheduled a vote on H.R. 7024, the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act on August 1. Sadly it failed, 48-44 (we needed 60 votes to proceed). This bill would have expanded the Child Tax credit (CTC) for 16 million children in families. The bill passed by a wide margin in the House in January, but fell short in the Senate.

Advocates did all they could, but election year politics doomed this bill in the Senate. That is an unconscionable reason to let half a million children stay in poverty. Fortunately, Congress will get another chance to expand the CTC for struggling families next year.

Contact your senators to thank them or express your disappointment with their H.R. 7024 vote, and urge them to do better in 2025.
