The Main Street Tax Certainty Act (
H.R. 703/
S. 213), legislation to make permanent the Section 199A deduction, was reintroduced in the 119th Congress. The campaign to protect Main Street from looming tax hikes is once again a bicameral and bipartisan effort. The bottom line is that Section 199A is more than just a tax provision. It protects thousands of local communities from fewer jobs, reduces the tax burden on print service providers and small businesses to make them more competitive, and allows multi-generation businesses to stay family-owned. The Alliance joined more than 230 trade associations in a
coalition letter strongly supporting the legislation.
Section 199A, which was adopted as part of the landmark 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), allows for a 20 percent deduction of qualified income for pass-through businesses. Most small businesses are structured as a pass-through and this section was included in the TCJA to promote equity in America’s tax code between small businesses on Main Street with larger corporations.
We hope you'll lend your support to this effort by sending a pre-written letter to your elected officials. Feel free to modify the letter by adding your personal story on how the tax deduction benefits your business.
