New Jersey Alert! Urge Your NJ Representatives to Oppose the Packaging Product Stewardship Act
The New Jersey Packaging Product Stewardship Act (S3398/A5009) mandates that producers of packaging materials either individually or collectively through a producer responsibility organization (PRO) develop and implement a packaging waste stewardship plan. The good news is that after advocacy efforts by the Alliance and other like-minded organizations, the ban on carbon black in printing inks has been removed from the legislation. However, paper and paper-based products are still covered under the bill. Also, the legislation excludes advanced recycling technologies from the definition of recycling. The source reduction mandates and various restrictions are not feasible to implement and threaten the viability of the printing and packaging industry in the state. If you reside in New Jersey or operate a facility in the state, please send a message to your representatives urging them to oppose S3398/A5009.
