Urge Congress to Reauthorize Nursing Education Programs
Federal funding for nursing education programs is in jeopardy. The Trump administration proposed eliminating funds for all programs under Title VIII of the Public Health Service Act except the Nurse Corps Program in its fiscal 2026 budget, and House appropriators advanced a Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations bill (H.R. 5304) that provides no money for the Nurse Faculty Loan Program or the Nursing Workforce Diversity Program. The funding authorization for all the Title VIII programs expired on September 30.

The “Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2025” (S. 1874 / H.R. 3593) would extend the funding authorization for these vital programs — the primary source of federal support for recruiting, educating, and retaining nurses and nurse faculty. Renewing this authorization is essential to strengthen nursing education.

Take action today. Urge your U.S. Senators to cosponsor S. 1874 and call on your Representative to cosponsor H.R. 3593. Demonstrating strong congressional support is critical to passing these bills to address the nursing shortage, support nurse faculty, and reinforce academic nursing.
