Tell Legislators to Make Critical Changes to Paid Sick Leave and Tip Credit Before They Go into Effect!
Lawmakers have less than four weeks to make critical changes to both the earned sick time (paid sick leave) and tipped wages for servers that will go into effect on February 21, 2025.

Two bills have been introduced and passed by the State House since the beginning of the year that would provide common sense changes to these flawed and harmful laws.  House Bill 4002 would change the Earned Sick Time Act and House Bill 4001 would restore the tipped wage for restaurant servers.  We need the Senate to act NOW!

Despite NFIB’s 6-year fight, on July 31, 2024, the activist Michigan Supreme Court wrongly ruled that “Adopt and Amend” procedures the legislature employed, at the urging of the business community, were unconstitutional.  The result is that the original language of the petitions pushed by out of state progressive groups for the Earned Sick Time Act and Minimum Wage will go into effect on February 21, 2025.

The Earned Sick Time Act will affect ALL employers with one or more employees, allows for up to 72 hours of sick leave a year to be accrued, and has a myriad of regulations and restrictions on employers on how that sick time is calculated and used, including a prohibition on requiring advance notice and the chance for employees to sue over any violations.  This applies to all employees including part-time, seasonal, and temporary employees.

Michigan’s law will be the most generous and stringent of the 17 states with mandated paid sick leave.

Please review the requirements for earned sick time and share how these new laws will impact your business and employees! Find all the requirements of the Earned Sick Time Act HERE.

Time is running out!! Senators on both sides of the aisle need to understand the impact of this law as it has been thrust upon them by the Michigan Supreme Court. Please take action today!
