Dear Members,
Great news! The Social Work Licensure Compact Bill has successfully moved out of the New Jersey State Commerce Committee and is now headed for the next phase of review. This bill cannot be amended, which means it moves forward as originally drafted, ensuring a streamlined process for social workers to practice across state lines.
What is the Social Work Licensure Compact?
This compact allows social workers licensed in one state to practice in other participating states without needing additional licenses. It reduces barriers, enhances mobility, and increases access to care—especially for rural and underserved communities.
Why is this Important?
- Easier Mobility: Social workers can quickly respond to crises in other states or relocate for personal and professional reasons.
- Increased Access: This bill ensures more people across the country have access to qualified professionals, particularly in critical care areas.
- Workforce Support: By simplifying licensure, we can better support the social work workforce in meeting national demands.
Next Steps
With the bill moving forward, it is crucial that we maintain momentum. As this bill cannot be amended, we need to ensure full support from our representatives for its passage.
