  Farm Bureau Appeals to USDA to Help Farmers  
  In a six-page letter to the USDA, the American Farm Bureau Federation detailed a list of requests to the administration to use its authority under the CARES Act to rescue "all sectors of agriculture" from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. More here.

  MFB Launches Coronavirus Resource Portal  
  Maryland Farm Bureau has lauched a COVID-19 resource portal to provide timely and relevant updates for those involved in Maryland food and agriculture. Safety guidelines, financial, business, and labor resources are provided on the site. More here.

  MARBIDCO Pandemic Adjustment Loan Fund Program Now Open  
  The Maryland Agricultural and Resource-Based Industry Development Corporation (MARBIDCO) has established the Pandemic Adjustment Loan Fund Program to help Maryland's food and fiber producers, harvesters and primary processors adjust to the business disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program offers low cost loans with flexible terms for working capital or equipment purchases. More here.

  Farm Credit of the Virginias recently held a webinar featuring Dr. David Kohl, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at Virginia Tech. Dr. Kohl provided his insights and an outlook of what the farm economy will look like following COVID-19. Read more here.

  Finding Food in the Region in the Face of COVID-19  
  COVID-19 is changing many aspects of our daily lives, including the way we get the food we need to support our health and nutrition. Area farmers, food distributors, schools, retailers, restaurants, food banks, and others are responding to stay-at-home orders and other directives to increase social distancing, with changes to how they operate.   "Haul Now, Apply Later" FastTrack Grants to Transport Poultry Available  
  The Maryland Department of Agriculture encourages farmers who want to use poultry manure as a crop fertilizer and soil conditioner to apply for the new and improved FastTrack grants that will allow them to haul poultry manure now and apply for cost-share reimbursement later. More here.

  Deadline to Report Extended Season Acres for Cover Crops Approaching  
 
The Maryland Department of Agriculture reminds farmers participating in its Cover Crop Program that they have until April 15 to report fields to be included in the extended season payment option. The 2019-2020 Cover Crop Program provides an additional $15 per acre incentive payment to qualifying farmers who agree to terminate their cover crops after May 1. More here.

  The Maryland State Fair is currently seeking 2-year college, 4-year college, and trade school applicants for the F. Grove Miller Maryland State Fair Honorary and the Marlin K. Hoff Memorial Scholarship programs. Applications must be submitted by June 1, 2020. Apply here!

  AFBF Spring Member Survey  
  AFBF has created an online member survey to gather information and thoughts on sustainability, the future of agriculture and COVID-19. Results of the survey will help Farm Bureau better serve and develop programs for members. The survey is anonymous and should take only three to four minutes to complete.   Nominate Your Local Fire Department for Grain Bin Safety  
  Each year, farmers and grain handlers risk their lives when they enter large grain bins to remove clumped or rotting grain while machinery is still running. Nominate your local fire department for the chance to win a grain bin rescue tube and safety training by Friday, April 30th. More here.
