MARBIDCO is excited to announce that the Maryland Next Generation Farmland Acquisition Program (or "Next Gen Program") is available once again! This program will reopen on a monthly basis to help qualified young and beginning farmers who seek to purchase farmland, but need some specialized financial assistance to enter (or continue in) the agricultural profession in exchange for helping to preserve the farmland. America's Farmers Grow Ag Leaders, sponsored by Bayer Fund, is set to work with farmers once again to support students that are pursuing careers in any agricultural-related field of study. The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC) is excited to host the first ever full-day Southern Maryland Ag Marketing Conference on Friday, November 15th at the College of Southern Maryland in Prince Frederick from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Qualifying for Social Security as a Farmer or Rancher

For many Americans, Social Security makes up a sizable amount of their income in retirement. In 2018, 63 million Americans received approximately one trillion dollars in Social Security benefits, with a majority of those funds going to retired workers. However, due to the way in which many farm operators utilize the tax code to adjust their income, many farmers run the risk of not qualifying for Social Security retirement benefits.
