  The Dairy Margin Coverage Program: A New and Improved Assistance Program

Sign-ups are open through September 20th for the 2019 Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) program - a much-needed replacement of the Dairy Margin Protection Program. For the first four months of 2019, Maryland dairy farmers could receive approximately $15,000 in back payments just for signing up. Did we mention it's FREE to sign up this year? Read more here.

  Catterton and Bauer Attend AFBF's Women's Communications Boot Camp

MFB members Chris Catterton and Danielle Bauer were selected to attend AFBF's Women's Communications Boot Camp in Washington, D.C. this past month. Attendees participate in a rigorous training to become better advocates for Farm Bureau and agriculture. Applications are now being accepted for the fall program taking place October 22-25, 2019.

The Women's Leadership Program is selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a trip to Las Vegas. The trip will include round-trip airfare for two, a 3 night/4 day stay and $300 cash. The tickets are $20 each and the drawing will be held on December 10th. Click here for more information.

  Hiring Practices for Farm Operations Webinar  
 

Recent high profile animal welfare videos have highlighted issues when employees can cause problems for livestock operations. Many farms should take a moment to review their hiring practices and how they train employees to use generally accepted handling practices that will not harm livestock.The University of Maryland will host a webinar focused on proper hiring and training techniques for agricultural operations on July 12 starting at noon (EST). The webinar is free to participants but does require registration prior to the event.  Register here.

  University of Maryland Dairy Field Day and Demonstration  
 

Dairy producers, industry professionals, and government officials are invited to learn about feeding transition cows, inoculants for forages, rumination and activity monitoring, and on-farm culturing for strategic use of antibiotics on mastitis pathogens. Registration and a continental breakfast begins at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 9 at the Central Maryland Research and Education Center, Clarksville facility. Click here to register.

  2019 Maryland Commodity Classic  
 

The Maryland Grain Producers Association, Maryland Soybean Board, Maryland Grain Producers Utilization Board, and the Mid-Atlantic Soybean Association will host the Maryland Commodity Classic for area grain producers on Thursday, July 25th at the Queen Anne's 4-H Park in Centreville. The annual event features research presentations, exhibits, informational displays, and a crab feast and chicken/pork BBQ. This year's event will feature a grain bin safety demonstration. Tickets are $10 before 2:30 p.m. and $20 after 2:30 p.m. No entry is permitted after 3:30 p.m. For tickets, contact Marguerite at mdag@gmail.com
