Agriculture and Aviation: A Vital Maryland Partnership
|
|
|
Starting at the end of the harvest up until the freezing period, farmers rely on fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft to aerial seed cover crops. These same aircraft are used throughout the harvest to protect our crops from pests and diseases. As we move forward and debate important national priorities, including infrastructure, we need to keep in mind the importance of small aircraft and airports. Click here to read the full article.

Policy Devel-HOP-ment

In an effort to increase young farmer participation in the policy development process, the Maryland Farm Bureau Young Farmers Committee hosted four Policy Devel-HOP-ment workshops across the state. These events were hosted at local breweries to provide a fun atmosphere to discuss the most important work MFB does - develop policy at the grassroots level. We appreciate the support of Falling Branch Brewery, Burley Oak Brewing Co., Antietam Brewery, and Waredaca Brewing Co. in hosting our Young Farmers! |

Cover Crop Aerial Seeding Deadline Extended

Due to poor weather resulting in unsafe flying conditions over the last several weeks, the Maryland Department of Agriculture has extended the aerial seeding and aerial ground seeding deadline to October 14th for farmers who signed up to plant cover crops in their fields this fall with the Maryland Agricultural Water Quality Cost-Share Program (MACS). Next Gen Program 2nd Round Now Open
|

MARBIDCO announced today that the Next Generation Farmland Acquisition Program ("Next Gen Program") will reopen for a second round this fall to help qualified young and beginning farmers who seek to purchase farmland, but need some specialized financial assistance to enter (or continue in) the agricultural profession in exchange for helping to preserve the farmland.
