Express Concerns for HB1125 Earned Wage Access to Your Legislators
HB1125- Establishes within the Indiana Code a new chapter, to be known as the Indiana Earned Wage Access Act (Act), governing the offering and provision of earned wage access services to Indiana consumers.

This bill would allow workers to take out the wages they have already earned in advance of their scheduled pay day.

However, what concerns us is the lack of guardrails in place. There is no limit on the fees an EWA provider could attach to the advancement of someone's paycheck. These providers also make money by asking for an optional tip from consumers. This would be the first time in Indiana state law that would allow for tipping a financial service provider.

Additionally, it is estimated that 75% of consumers will be repeat borrowers, meaning they will take another advance within 24 hours of being able to do so.

Please urge your state senator to propose guardrails on this bill.
