Oppose NJ "Reproductive Health Care" Bills
Legislators in the New Jersey Assembly and Senate introduced several “reproductive healthcare”-related bills (as if New Jersey doesn’t already allow extreme abortion and gender transition access). It is our understanding that legislators plan to bring up the bills this summer. Even before a hearing is scheduled, we ask that you review the bills and ask legislators to vote “NO.” The bills are as follows:

A 4656 (Companion bill to S 3491 Secures protections for patients and providers accessing and providing legally protected health care activities; establishes right of residents to legally protected health care services, which are restricted in other states.)

A 4657 (Companion bill to S 3492- Creates "Reproductive Health Care Access Fund" to strengthen access to reproductive health care; makes appropriation.)

A 4659 (Companion bill to S 3494- Requires four-year public institution of higher education to develop and implement reproductive health services plan; requires county college to develop referral network for reproductive health care services.) *This bill is assigned to the House Assembly Higher Education Committee where Assemblywoman Linda S. Carter is the Committee Chair.

A 4660 (Companion bill to S 3495- Establishes Reproductive Health Care Professionals Loan Redemption Program; appropriates $5 million. (To increase the number of healthcare providers who would provide abortions in New Jersey and other services due to abortion bans in other states) *This bill is assigned to the House Assembly Higher Education Committee where Assemblywoman Linda S. Carter is the Committee Chair.

A 4661 (Companion bill to S 3496- Provides for voluntary contributions for taxpayers on gross income tax returns to support reproductive health care services (abortion)).

The Assembly companion bills have been referred to the House Assembly Health Committee of which Assemblymember Herb Conway is the Committee Chair. The Senate bills have been referred to the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee of which Senator Joseph Vitale is the Committee Chair.

As the American Academy of Medical Ethics (AAME), we believe life begins at conception and an unborn child deserves all the rights set forth in the Constitution, including the right to life. As healthcare professionals, it is our duty to protect the lives and health of our patients—in this case, both mother and child. We also believe that minors struggling with gender dysphoria need compassionate care—not harmful and irreversible surgeries, puberty blockers and hormone treatments.

Thank you.
