Join us in standing in solidarity with human rights defenders around the world. Human rights defenders often risk their freedom—and their lives—to uphold justice, advocate for the voiceless, and protect the integrity of the legal system. When governments target those who defend the rights of others, it is not only a threat to individuals, but to communities and societies. We are called to speak out for justice wherever it is threatened. We are particularly concerned for those standing up for the rule of law and human dignity in regions of conflict or where rights are increasingly restricted.
For example, on May 19, Salvadoran authorities arrested a prominent lawyer who has represented critics of President Nayib Bukele’s government. This arrest is part of a troubling pattern there: lawyers, journalists, and activists who defend human rights and democratic values are increasingly being criminalized and silenced.

This is not just an issue in one country; it is a global challenge that demands a strong response. Contact your members of Congress and ask them to support human rights defenders.
