Congress recently passed a federal budget that slashed funding for the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) by 57%—putting critical Esophageal Cancer research in jeopardy. The CDMRP includes the Peer-Reviewed Cancer Research Program (PRCRP), which is the ONLY dedicated federal funding source for Esophageal Cancer research.  

Without those funds, lifesaving research could stall. 

Thanks to your advocacy, the chairs of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees issued a guidance letter affirming their intent to protect PRCRP funding and keep Esophageal Cancer in the program—a huge step forward! But make no mistake: this issue is still up for negotiation.

We need YOUR voice now more than ever! Tell Congress that for FY 2025 and 2026, we need them to: 

• Protect and fully fund the PRCRP
• Ensure Esophageal Cancer remains included in this critical program

 

Luckily, there is a very easy way for your elected officials to show their support.  Senators can sign a letter authored by Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) that asks for exactly what is needed now. Representatives can sign a similar letter authored by Representatives Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) and Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ).
