The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is blocking the importation of some DJI drones, leaving shipments stuck in limbo without legal justification. The agency claims that these drones are subject to certain import laws, yet DJI is not listed under the relevant law, does not manufacture products in that location, and has passed extensive supply chain audits proving compliance with U.S. labor laws. These are the most popular drones in America and CBP's actions are having a negative impact on countless U.S. drone users.

Despite this, CBP has detained shipments with no clear evidence of wrongdoing and no transparency about how businesses and drone users waiting for their shipments can resolve the issue. These actions are harming American small businesses, first responders, and drone users across the country, restricting access to critical technology relied on for public safety, infrastructure inspections, environmental monitoring, and so much more. 

Drone users like us should not be caught in the middle of an arbitrary enforcement action, waiting on products we have already legally purchased. We need CBP to provide clarity and release compliant shipments without unnecessary delay. 

Congress has oversight over CBP, and it is time that they take action for us. Make your voice heard by sending a note to your member of Congress asking them to engage with CBP to release delayed drone shipments immediately, or provide a clear reason for their actions.
