I support the Fall Line!

The Fall Line is the signature 43-mile multi-use trail currently under construction from Ashland to Petersburg connecting Hanover, Henrico, Richmond, Chesterfield, and Colonial Heights. The Fall Line promises to bring safe, active transportation and recreation to millions of people each year as a high-quality and connected, wide paved trail serving as the backbone of the Richmond region's bike/ped network.

The Fall Line is more than a trail. It will be 43 miles of connected places that will elevate Richmond's active live network to nation-leading and world class.  The trail is built to connect communities, and communities will be built to connect to the Fall Line.

This trail is intentionally routed to connect people to high value, high traffic areas. It will benefit people where they already are and is not designed to simply be a recreational trail off the beaten path. The potential impact of the Fall Line is greater than any other active transportation project in Central Virginia, and the investment, coordination, and administrative commitment across locality lines must be robust

I enthusiastically promote that the Fall Line will be:

  • paved, wide, and totally separated from car travel lanes. Bike lanes don't count, and the design needs to be consistent across all sections!
  • designed to put people with disabilities at the forefront of planning and design. This trail will be for all people!
  • a major contributor to tree canopy installation and replacement along its corridor. Shade benefits trail users!
  • a useful tool for reducing people's reliance on car trips. One of its biggest values is connecting to places where people want to go.
  • a driver for trail-oriented development that will coordinate with new residential, retail, and commercial development that will grow the vibrancy and economic vitality of our region.

Please ensure this game-changing trail is built to a high and consistent quality, connected to places where people want to go or are already are, and that the impacts of the trail are allowed to be fully realized. For people, for our environment, for our economic vitality, and for our health and quality of life.
