Reintroduction of the Safe Step Act!

The U.S. Senate and House reintroduced the bipartisan Safe Step Act with companion bills, S. 2903 and H.R. 5509. Patients across the country are cheering for the recent reintroductions! It is critical to pass this important legislation to protect patients and get access to their medications.

This legislation is aimed at putting reasonable patient protections in place around an insurance industry practice known as step therapy. Step therapy, sometimes known as "fail first," is a tool used by insurers that requires patients to try a drug, or drugs, that are preferred by the insurance company before they can access the therapy originally prescribed by their physician. Overly burdensome step therapy can jeopardize the patient-provider relationship and unnecessarily prolong ineffective treatment, preventing patients from immediately starting, or continuing, to access the most appropriate therapy recommended by their doctor. Take action to support this important legislation today!
