Do you think Bayer/Monsanto should be liable for the damage caused by glyphosate, the world’s most widely used herbicide active ingredient, as found in Roundup, that has been linked to cancer and a number of other diseases? In the wake of a number of lawsuits filed on behalf of people who got sick from using Roundup, the pesticide industry is fighting back. Their new strategy involves working at the state level to pass legislation that helps shield them from legal liability, much like vaccine manufacturers have been shielded from liability for the damage their products cause since 1988, following the passage of the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act (NCVIA) of 1986. Models of this legislation have been introduced in several states so far (Idaho, Iowa, and Missouri, for example), but we can expect more of the same if we stay mute and sit on the sidelines. We cannot let state legislatures kowtow to the chemical industry at the expense of our health!Write to your state legislature and tell them to oppose efforts to shield pesticide companies from legal liability.
