Midwives and Midwifery Supporters,
Greetings from ACNM. In honor of today’s 5th annual Black Maternal Health Summit, ACNM is encouraging folks to take a couple of minutes to engage with their member of congress and urge support and passage of the Momibus, critical legislation to improve Black maternal health outcomes!
In the richest nation on earth, moms are dying at the highest rate in the developed world – and the rate is rising. For as dire as the situation is overall, the crisis is most severe for Black moms in the U.S., who are dying at 3 to 4 times the rate of their white counterparts. To address this crisis, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood, Congresswoman Alma Adams, and Senator Cory Booker have introduced the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act. The Momnibus builds on existing legislation to address every dimension of the Black maternal health crisis, including increasing access to midwives and midwifery-led models of care in health systems.
We urge you to join us in the urgent work of saving lives and ending racial and ethnic disparities in maternal health outcomes by reaching out to your members of congress and asking them to cosponsor the Momnibus. Improving the culture of maternal health in this country should not be a partisan issue. Together we can do hard things!
