A series of three bills relating to prevailing wage expansion are on Governor Hochul's desk awaiting her signature or veto -- S.2536-A/A.2747, S.5379/A.4914 and S.7485/A.8465. These bills expand prevailing wage to offsite fabrication for public works, private brownfield remediation projects, and concrete and asphalt haulers in New York City and the surrounding counties.
This expansion of prevailing wage mandates to even more projects will add significantly to the cost of construction. These cost increases will force businesses to close their doors, thousands of workers will lose their jobs, and the construction work New York desperately needs will remain crumbling and unfinished. With the economy already teetering on the brink of recession, looming tariffs, and general economic uncertainty, the passage of these prevailing wage expansions would be an unmitigated disaster for New York State.
Contact Governor Hochul today and urge her to veto these pieces of legislation and reject further expansion of prevailing wage in New York.
