Protect Michigan Electrical Apprentices - Maintain the 3:1 Apprentice-to-Journeyman Ratio
We are reaching out to you today regarding an urgent matter that requires your collective attention and action.

Senate Bill 895, currently under consideration in the Michigan House, poses a significant challenge that could impact the construction industry, specifically for electricians. This bill has the potential to affect our businesses, livelihoods, and the future of construction in Michigan.

What Does SB 895 Do:

  • Reduces the ratio of apprentice electricians to journey/master electricians from 3:1 to 1:1.
  • Adds penalties of $5,000 for the 1st offense, $10,000 for the 2nd offense, and a suspension of license for at least 90 days for the 3rd offense.
  • Strikes language stating 8,000 hours must be completed under the direct supervision of an individual who is licensed under this article and changes it to state 8,000 hours must be completed by an apprentice electrician registered under section 717.

We urge you to take a stand against this bill by sharing your personal stories, experiences, and concerns with lawmakers. Your voices matter, and by expressing your opposition directly to legislators, you can help influence the outcome of this critical issue.
