Urge Congress to address drug shortages
  • Despite past congressional efforts to address the issue, OMSs continue to face frequent drug and supply shortages due to their unique skill set and practice model.
  • Shortages have affected medications like anesthetics, analgesics, antibiotics, antiemetics, emergency drugs and saline.
  • When supplies are scarce or priced prohibitively high during shortages, OMSs are unable to maintain their usual level of care, which has a significant impact on the healthcare system.
  • AAOMS supported several proposed legislative solutions in the 118th Congress, all of which are awaiting reintroduction. We urge Congress to do more to address drug shortages by reintroducing these important legislative measures.
