As Congress reconvenes for the final stretch of the 118th session of Congress, lawmakers face a packed agenda with just a few weeks left before the December 20 funding deadline. Along with passing a government funding bill to avoid a shutdown, several critical issues demand attention, including healthcare extenders. While a government shutdown is unlikely, a Continuing Resolution (CR) that includes essential healthcare provisions is expected.
With a busy schedule ahead, Congress must also address key healthcare issues before adjourning. One urgent matter is the looming cut to Medicare reimbursement rates set to take effect in 2025. This cut, part of the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, would mark the fifth consecutive year of reimbursement cuts, threatening access to care for millions of Medicare patients. Healthcare practice costs have risen by 47 percent since 2001, while Medicare reimbursement has dropped by 29 percent (adjusted for inflation). If Congress does not act, this widening gap between costs and reimbursement will impact patient care.
You do not have to wait for Congress to act – you can take action today! Urge Congress to pass the Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act of 2024 (U.S. HR 10073). This bill would eliminate the –2.8 percent cut to the Medicare conversion factor and add a +1.8 percent increase to bring reimbursement rates in line with the rising healthcare costs. Physicians are not asking for a raise; they are asking for fairness. Take action now!
