Your Vote and the Future of Healthcare: Reflecting on the 2024 Election
November 12, 2024 by Megan Boyd

Thank you to everyone who voted in the 2024 general election! Over the past several months, we have encouraged informed voting at every level, sharing insights on key ballot measures and issues impacted by the election. Your engagement with our Election Center and support of our Get Out the Vote (GOTV) campaign has been instrumental.

This year, 16 physicians and three nurses were elected to Congress, along with one additional race that is still too close to call. These healthcare professionals bring vital industry knowledge and experience to Congress, positioning them to effectively advocate for policies that benefit providers, patients, and the future of healthcare. As the healthcare landscape faces significant challenges, their expertise will be valuable in shaping sustainable healthcare legislation. For more information on the healthcare professionals elected to Congress, see the tables below.

One notable outcome on California’s ballot was Proposition 35 (Prop 35), which passed with over 66 percent of the vote. This measure directs between $2 billion and $5 billion in tax revenue toward Medi-Cal, supporting increased reimbursement rates for providers who care for low-income patients. Prop 35 represents a meaningful step toward expanding access to healthcare for California’s most vulnerable populations.

Thank you again for your commitment to making an informed choice at the polls. Together, we are shaping the future of healthcare, prioritizing accessibility, fairness, quality, and informed advocacy.
