Beyond the Presidential Race: Why Every Vote Matters
July 30, 2024 by Megan Boyd

While all election years are important, presidential election years receive the most attention, with constant coverage on social media and mainstream news outlets. This intense focus can make it easy to overlook other critical elections happening. Yet, every election plays a vital role in shaping the future of democracy and our healthcare system. While this year is not directly a healthcare election, healthcare issues are still at the forefront of many voters’ minds. As healthcare expenses continue to rise for physicians and patients, a poll done by KFF earlier this year highlights that 89 percent of voters want to hear candidates discuss healthcare affordability.

In many instances, the actions of state legislators and local officials have a more direct impact on individuals’ daily lives than the president. These local leaders make decisions and create policies that affect their constituents daily. Despite the polarizing nature of the presidential race, it’s crucial to vote. Participation in all elections is more important than ever to ensure balanced and representative governance at every level.

In our democracy and healthcare system, your voice matters. By exercising your civic right to vote, you influence the creation of rules, legislation, and policies that shape your community, state, and country. Voting is a powerful tool for change, allowing you to hold elected officials accountable and advocate for the issues that matter most to you. As you prepare to vote this year, let us be your resource for all your pre-election needs! Visit our Election Center here, or by texting ZPVOTE to 50457.
