As senators and representatives navigate a challenging year, they need our encouragement and prayers more than ever!
Many members of Congress run for office because they want to create positive change in their communities and their country. But political pressures can creep in and pull them away from their original aspirations, especially in a time as contentious as the one we're in.
And though we may not always agree with our members of Congress on issues or their decisions, as Christians, we are called to pray for our leaders. A majority of them claim some sort of faith – over 80 percent are Christian and nearly 97 percent are religious.
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people —for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
1 Timothy 2:1-2
This year has been full of challenging moments and significant changes for our country.
At World Vision, one of our guiding values is that we are Christian – people led by our faith. During unsettled times, we choose to pray. Will you join us by sending a note of encouragement to your members of Congress? Let them know that you are thankful for their leadership and that you are praying for them in this turbulent time in their lives. Thank them for the work they do and remind them to keep the needs of children around the world in mind as they make critical decisions!
What kind of things can you share?
- A thank you for something your senator or representative has done that you've appreciated
- A Bible verse that strikes you or a note of prayer
- Remind them of the needs of children who are impacted by their decisions, not only here in the U.S., but around the world
