Our community is devastated by the killing of Aysenur Eygi, an American citizen from Washington State. She was shot in the head on September 5th, by the Israeli army while protesting against the illegal theft of Palestinian land in Nablus.
Aysenur's shocking killing isn't the first time Washingtonians have witnessed someone from our community killed in pursuit of Palestinian freedom and standing against the systemic violence of the Israeli occupation. Rachel Corrie, a US citizen from Olympia, was run over by an Israeli bulldozer in 2003. Despite repeated calls from Rachel’s family and elected officials, a thorough and independent investigation never happened. It's critical that Aysenur's horrifying killing is independently investigated and documented.
We cannot trust Israel to conduct a fair and unbiased investigation.
Our community grieves with Aysenur's family and friends.
