This week, two members of the Public Policy & Government Affairs (PPGA) Department at Vibrant Emotional Health (Vibrant) – State Policy Director Shelley Polanco and State Policy Manager Daniel Herron – presented at a meeting of the National Association of Crisis Organization Directors (NASCOD). They provided an overview of the evolving state landscape for funding the crisis centers that are part of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (988 Lifeline). Shelley and Daniel also covered how states have historically funded the 988 Lifeline, the trends they are currently tracking, and the latest legislative developments shaping crisis response systems nationwide.
In addition to funding updates, Shelley and Daniel shared newly released resources and key reports that can help states and stakeholders navigate policy decisions. Attendees were particularly engaged in discussions about recent bills and legislative activity, expressing strong interest in staying involved during this legislative session.
Continued collaboration and knowledge-sharing will be critical as more states explore sustainable funding models for 988. The PPGA Department looks forward to ongoing conversations with NASCOD members and other stakeholders to ensure that every state has the resources to support crisis services effectively.
