An Inspiring Evening of Hope and Celebration at the MHANYS Annual Awards Dinner
November 8, 2024 by Lisa Elder, Public Policy & Government Affairs, Vibrant Emotional Health

On October 29th, Lisa Elder, Public Policy & Government Affairs State Policy Manager at Vibrant Emotional Health, had the privilege of attending the Mental Health Association in New York State (MHANYS) Annual Awards Dinner at the Crowne Plaza in Albany. It was an inspiring evening filled with powerful stories of resilience, hope, and recovery. The room was buzzing with an undeniable sense of community and shared commitment to improving the lives of those facing mental health challenges across New York State.

Throughout the evening, we celebrated the tireless work of individuals and organizations dedicated to supporting the well-being of our communities. The awardees’ stories were moving, each serving as a testament to the transformative impact of mental health advocacy and service. Their passion and dedication continue to make a lasting difference, not only in the lives of individuals they directly serve, but also in creating a broader culture of understanding and support.

We were honored to have Assemblymember John McDonald and The Office of Mental Health (OMH) Commissioner Dr. Ann Sullivan present, adding their voices to a chorus of gratitude for all those working to improve mental health outcomes in our communities.

Another highlight of the evening was the recognition of Governor Kathy Hochul with MHANYS' highest honor, the CEO Award. Patrick Wildes, Assistant Secretary to the Governor for Human Services and Mental Hygiene, graciously accepted the award on behalf of Governor Hochul. The Governor’s focus on mental health, particularly her commitment to addressing the youth mental health crisis, has been monumental.

Congratulations again to all the awardees, and a heartfelt thank you to MHANYS for organizing this beautiful celebration. Let’s continue to build a stronger, more compassionate mental health system for everyone in New York State.
