Supporting the Michelle Alyssa Go Act: A Crucial Step for Mental Health Care
July 25, 2024 by Valerie Silecchia, Public Policy & Government Affairs, Vibrant Emotional Health

At Vibrant Emotional Health, we are committed to enhancing mental health services and ensuring that individuals in crisis receive the care they need. We proudly support the bipartisan H.R.7803 - Michelle Alyssa Go Act. This vital legislation aims to improve the mental health crisis continuum by expanding access to care and providing safe havens for those in need.

"On behalf of Vibrant Emotional Health, I offer our enthusiastic support for the bipartisan Michelle Alyssa Go Act. This vital legislation is a crucial step towards ensuring a comprehensive crisis continuum, providing safe havens, and expanding access to care for individuals facing mental health crises," said Lesleigh Irish-Underwood, Chief External Affairs Officer at Vibrant Emotional Health. "By removing barriers to treatment, championing evidence-based interventions, and empowering providers with necessary resources to deliver quality care, this Act will not only transform the lives of countless New Yorkers but also serve as a model for communities nationwide."

The Michelle Alyssa Go Act addresses critical gaps in the current mental health care system, particularly the outdated Medicaid reimbursement cap of 16 beds, which limits access to necessary care. This cap has long been a barrier to mental health facilities attempting to provide adequate services to those in need.

"The current Medicaid reimbursement cap of 16 beds is an outdated policy that creates a significant barrier to accessing mental health care," said Laura Evans, AVP of Public Policy & Government Affairs at Vibrant Emotional Health. "By raising "the bed limit to 36 and aligning with nationally recognized standards for mental health programs, the Michelle Alyssa Go Act will make substantial strides in expanding access to care for those who need it most. Vibrant commends Representatives Malliotakis, Goldman, Cardenas, and Bilirakis for their leadership in pushing this critical legislation forward."

Increasing the Medicaid reimbursement cap to 36 beds will enable more mental health facilities to provide necessary care, alleviating pressure on emergency rooms and reducing the number of people who fall through the cracks of the mental health care system.

At Vibrant Emotional Health, we believe in the power of evidence-based interventions and the importance of providing resources to mental health providers. The Michelle Alyssa Go Act champions these principles and ensures that mental health care aligns with nationally recognized standards. This legislation will empower providers to deliver quality care and significantly impact the lives of those they serve.

As we support this critical legislation, we remain committed to advocating for policies that enhance mental health care and support the well-being of individuals across the nation. The Michelle Alyssa Go Act is crucial in transforming mental health services and ensuring everyone has access to the care they need during a crisis.

At Vibrant Emotional Health, we are inspired by the potential of the Michelle Alyssa Go Act to create a more comprehensive and effective mental health crisis continuum. We look forward to continuing our advocacy for this legislation and working towards a future where mental health care is accessible to all.
