Raise Awareness During National Suicide Prevention Month and Beyond
September 20, 2023 by Vibrant Public Policy & Government Affairs

It's critical to raise awareness about suicide prevention and explore how we can collectively make a meaningful difference in someone's life. Please spread the word about #BeThe1To's five critical action steps, along with valuable resources, tips, and messages throughout National Suicide Prevention Month and beyond.

Five Action Steps to Be The One:

Ask. Start by asking someone directly if they're struggling with thoughts of suicide. Don't be afraid to have this important conversation; your support can be a lifeline.

Keep Them Safe. If someone you know is in crisis, take steps to ensure their immediate safety. Remove any potential means for self-harm or connect them with professional help.

Be There. Sometimes, just being present and listening can make all the difference. Show that you care, and be a compassionate, non-judgmental presence.

Help Them Connect. Assist the person with finding appropriate resources and professional help. Your guidance can be instrumental in their recovery journey.

Follow Up. Continue to check in with the individual even after the immediate crisis has passed. Your ongoing support can help them stay on the path to healing.

To understand why these steps are effective and to access further information, delve deeper into each one here.

By embracing these steps and sharing them with your community, you can actively contribute to suicide prevention. Everyone can work together to create a world where mental health is a priority, and where we all play a role in supporting those in need. Together, we can make a lasting impact, not just during National Suicide Prevention Month, but throughout the entire year.
