Vibrant Emotional Health recently participated in Commissioner Vasan’s convening on New York City's plan, in partnership with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, to address the needs of New Yorkers living with serious mental illness.
The plan aims to improve health, prevent suffering, and improve the quality of life for New Yorkers living with serious mental illness. Vibrant provided recommendations to increase mobile treatment capacity to 24/7 access, which would decrease the unnecessary use of emergency services and law enforcement. Another recommendation includes increasing community capacity, funding, and comprehensive wraparound services. Additional requests include supporting expanding stable housing options for people living with serious mental illness, expanding the City infrastructure for rehabilitative support, and providing education and employment for people with serious mental illness, as well as for their families.
