Stop HB 1662 - The Criminalization of Homelessness
HB 1662 would criminalize individuals experiencing homelessness by imposing a Class C misdemeanor upon them for unauthorized camping, sleeping, or long term shelter on public land. Class C misdemeanors can result in a jail sentence of up to 60 days and a fine of up to $500. The bill also preempts localities from adopting a policy to not enforce the criminalization of homelessness. It further provides that a resident, owner of a business, or the Attorney General may bring a civil action against the locality for violating the provisions of the bill.

This bill will be receiving a vote by the full House later this week, and it's extremely important they hear how harmful this bill would be to their community. Please contact your Representative to voice your strong opposition to HB 1662!
