Families and Children are at Risk-Call for Foreign Assistance to Resume

U.S. foreign assistance provides immediate, critical, lifesaving aid to our sisters and brothers facing hunger, religious persecution, conflict and other affronts to their human dignity. Almost all foreign aid programs have been terminated without warning to communities around the globe.

The situation is dire. As food distributions are halted, people are hungry. Without treatment for acute malnutrition, children will die. Entire communities are without shelter and clean water. Farmers are unable to plant crops. Mothers and their young children are losing access to critical health care. Your voice is urgently needed so we can continue to work for a world where all people can reach their God-given potential.

Email your members of Congress, asking them to urge the Administration to halt and reverse all terminations of lifesaving and life-affirming humanitarian and development assistance until a thorough and transparent review of programs is conducted. Additionally, request that your members of Congress urge the Administration to disburse all congressionally appropriated foreign assistance funds in a timely manner.

Even if you’ve already sent an email, please send another one today. Continued support for this life-saving work is essential.

USCCB supports the work of Catholic Relief Services (CRS) to partner with people to help them build better futures, providing the resources and tools they need to overcome challenges and thrive. CRS provides this kind of life-saving assistance in times of crisis, helps people become self-reliant and live with dignity. When societies thrive, they contribute to greater global stability, reduce the risk of conflict, and create safer, more prosperous environments that benefit everyone, including us; simply stated, international humanitarian and development assistance is in our country’s interest.
