These funds will support proven, community-based services—including emergency and transitional assistance, counseling, crisis line support, case management, sexual assault nurse examiner training, and child advocacy center services—that help survivors meet immediate needs and begin long-term healing.
HB 1200 is both compassionate and fiscally responsible. It prioritizes existing programs with demonstrated impact, limits funds to direct services, and requires annual reporting to ensure transparency and accountability. By strengthening the capacity of organizations already on the front lines, the bill helps prevent further harm, reduce long-term public costs, and promote safer, healthier communities statewide.
South Dakota can—and should—ensure survivors are not left without support. SD HB 1200 is a meaningful step forward.
